Bit dated but clean. Breakfast was simple but freshly made and dining area kept very clean

The breakfast was good and the staff was kind, however the hallways really need some TLC. The rooms felt damp and musty. The pullout bed blocks off the rest of the room and the sheets were not changed from the last person who slept in them. It was a bit expensive for what it was. It has potential, just needs some sprucing up. Try the Syrian ice cream in town.

Smell of wet plaster unhealthy and snow bank in front of drive up room dangerous
Snow bank made it impossible to use drive up room. We were given another room and narrow" sidewalk was solid ice. Suggested we use hallway entrance but hallway was under renovation and heavy smell of wet plaster was in appropriate and unhealthy because I have C.O.P.D. Our reservation was cancelled and we could not find another suitable pet friendly room in Halifax. Had to book a room 90 km away. These drive up rooms should not be rented in winter and hotel should not be opened when there is heavy renovations going on. I have photos to show all this. Been going to this hotel on and off for over 20 years … must say that our Valentine trip was badly ruined.

Overall, this hotel was okay, and you generally get what you pay for. The location is excellent and was definitely the biggest positive. It was a little overpriced during the August long weekend, but that’s to be expected.
The pool is small, and the pool deck was oddly always wet. The breakfast area is also too small for the number of guests, making it feel crowded every morning.
My biggest concern was the renovations on the first floor. Carpet had been pulled up and laid back down haphazardly, creating several tripping hazards. There were also exposed staples and nails in unfinished areas where I had to lift my kids over them. During our three-night stay, I never saw any maintenance staff working, so it wasn’t clear whether the renovations were actively progressing.
Garbage bins in the common areas were often overflowing, and the lobby washroom was out of order for our entire stay.
One small note that isn’t really the hotel’s fault: there is only one guest laundry machine, and other guests moved our laundry when we were only about 10 minutes late picking it up.
The location is great, but the condition of the common areas and the way the renovations were managed left room for improvement.

We had no choice but to stay here as other places were full. The place looked and smelled old, musty and badly needed some attention everywhere. Clearly the owner does not want to invest and has no pride in their business. To top it off, the expenditure was completely outrageous for what we got. Unfortunately gives a bad vibe to the city and other chain locations. That trust is gone!
