Pleasantly surprising in every way.
We had an enjoyable one night stay at Hosteria Farallon. We had a suite which included a tv, a mini fridge and a shared balcony looking over the river. The bed was super comfortable. The food was fantastic. Don't skip the Yucca fries. The pool was one of the biggest I've seen in Ecuador that's not public. You can actually swim laps in there if you want and it was warm. It's located in a quiet area a little out of town. The wifi was strong and the people working there were nice.
Since it's 2020, I have to mention that there is plenty of space to social distance in all of the shared spaces. The staff wore masks during all interactions.

A good night's sleep
Stayed here one night after a very long day of travel. The room was adequate but nothing special. The bed was comfortable. Shower had hot water but the shower head spray was funky. No A/C. The ceiling fan was broke so they gave us 2 floor fans which provided good white noise and cooled us down. I wouldn't consider this a vacation spot by American standards but if you need a place to clean up and get some sleep, they've got it. Also, had supper and breakfast in the restaurant. Good food and service. 2 cats were walking around and even jumped up on a table to lick a plate clean after some customers left. Not funny if you're not a cat person :).

Great location, lovely pool and jacuzzi, excellent breakfast
We were delighted on our recent trip from Cuenca to Quito to take a route through the Oriente. The drive from Cuenca to Sucua, following the Rio Paute, was quite the adventure. We decided that Macas would be the destination for the day and made some inquiries about hotels on the road from Macas to Pujo. Luckily there were several, and we stopped at the first one. The room was big; the pool was huge, but the water being a bit chilly we were happy that they offered to fire up the Jacuzzi and Turkish bath. My wife enjoyed the steam room, while I played in the Jacuzzi with my daughter. The dinner was a bit of a disappointment but the breakfast in the morning was truly the best Ecuadorian breakfast I have experienced thus far in my five years here. We will plan this trip again, perhaps trying one of the other hosterias, expecting similar quality from these resorts.
